Location

The City of Oxnard is 26.6 square miles, with an elevation of 53 feet above sea level (near City Hall). Oxnard is located with the shore of the Pacific Ocean as its southwesterly border. The City of Ventura is northwest of Oxnard, Camarillo is to the east, and Oxnard surrounds the city of Port Hueneme to the south. Oxnard is approximately 60 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles and 35 miles south of Santa Barbara.

The Oxnard Plain experiences a mild Mediterranean climate typical of Southern California. Average temperatures in the Oxnard area are 70° F high, a 52.4° F low, and an overall mean temperature of 60° F. Precipitation averages 14.45 inches per year, with the majority of rainfall occurring from November through March.

Population

Oxnard’s population is 200,390. 101,653 Male and 98,737 Female with an average household size of 3.95. Oxnard has a relatively young population even though it has increased 5.6% since 1960 to the current 29.9 median age. 33.3% of the population is under the age of 19, 49.8% is 20 – 54 and 16.8% is over 55. Oxnard’s population is estimated to be 73.5% Hispanic, 14.8% White, 7.3% Asian, 2.4% Black and 1.8% Other.
